Wonderful Weekend: St. Patrick’s Day & Mother's Day"I was born in Ireland and come from a large Irish family and it makes Mother’s day an important tradition for me. The fact it falls on the same weekend as St. Patrick’s Day makes it even more so. My Grandmother ran a second hand/ vintage clothing business (it’s good to know that I am like her) and my Mother is one of 12 children"
Mum on her wedding day - I still have her beautiful wedding dress which she handed down to me.
Mum and some of the family and friends. "To me being together as a family is a very important, having 3 girls & 1 boy is it always busy and never dull! The girls will be helping at the Fair on Sunday. It is really great having them at the fair - everyone loves the fact my children are helping out and they have been doing so since they were teenagers - it gives the Fair a more personal/family touch - it also helps that they all love vintage and want to come! I’m off to Twickenham on Saturday to see the England v Ireland Rugby game with my husband (who’s English) and we will both be hoping for a win.” Happy St. Patrick’s Day and wishing you wonderful Mother's Day and hope to see you at our Mother's Day Special Vintage Fashion Fair at 20th Century Theatre, Notting Hill on Sunday 18th March. LUCIAN FREUD. (1922-2011) FEBRUARY 2012 – NATIONAL PORTRAIT GALLERY
I was very fortunate last night (8 Feb 2012) to be invited to the preview of the hugely anticipated exhibition of the late Lucien Freud at the National Portrait Gallery in London. We were joined by Kate Middleton who was on her first solo public engagement as the Duchess of Cambridge without her husband, Prince William, by her side. Kate has recently been become a royal patron of the Gallery. I really enjoyed the exhibition with my personal favourite paintings being the artist’s earlier work rather than his later work. I found Freud’s use of coarse hog’s hair brushes gave his portraits a harshness about them that gave his sitters a caricature look. His nudes of both men and women had me thinking about his relationship with both sexes and what his personal views were on this to depict them in the way he did. This is truly a fantastic exhibition of 130 paintings, drawings and etchings, from the early 40’s to his death in 2011. Selected in close collaboration with the artist and drawn from public and private collections around the world and brought together for the first time in London – Freud’s fans are in a for a real treat and won’t be disappointed.
